
Internships: Fostering Design Excellence
The Internship program focuses on Fostering Design Excellence. It offers high-performing QUT design students an opportunity to advance their learning through real-world projects, and provides a pathway for paid internship placements at BMW Group in Munich, Germany.
The BMW Group + QUT Design Academy Internship program assists design students to progress through a 6-level advancement track that develops the necessary technical (hard) and personal (soft) skillsets to enhance and fast-track their professional careers. Each level focuses on distinct objectives, accomplishments and responsibilities that develop personal and professional competencies.
QUT Design students are able to apply for this program through Work Integrated Learning during their degree. If successful, students continue on an advancement track that begins at the academy and progresses through to a paid internship at BMW Group in Munich, Germany.
The objective is to support student professional development, while at the same time providing an exclusive opportunity to work with BMW Group, the worlds premiere automotive and mobility group.
Level 1 - Recruit
An entry-level position when a student is accepted into the Work Integrated Learning internship through the BMW Group + QUT Design Academy.

Level 2 - Beginner
A novice-level position achieved when a student completes their Work Integrated Learning internship at the BMW Group + QUT Design Academy.

Level 3 - Proficient
An intermediate-level position when a student (or graduate) is accepted into the internship program with BMW Group in Germany. This includes the first half of their internship with BMW Group (usually 6 months).

Level 4 - Advanced
A higher-level position when a student (or graduate) is nearing completion of the internship program with BMW Group in Germany. This includes the second half of their internship with BMW Group (usually 6 months).

Level 5 - Associate
An experienced-level position when a student (or graduate) has completed their internship with BMW Group in Germany and begins work with the BMW Group + QUT Design Academy. These positions are limited and suitable to a select few.
Level 6 - Expert
An expert level position when previous interns are offered a full-time job at BMW Group in Germany.

Who Are We Seeking?
We are scouting for exceptional students to apply for the BMW Group + QUT Design Academy Internship program. Although we prefer students studying industrial design, this is not a requirement. We also consider students with interaction design, visual design, information technology and games design background.
We seek applicants with a professional attitude, a desire to excel and continually improve, an ability to follow instructions with the initiative to find solutions independently, and someone who takes their future career seriously.
We also seek particular skillsets including competence across design, problem solving, research, sketching, visualisation, presentation and 3D CAD. It is preferred that students demonstrate high-end knowledge in 3D CAD packages (SolidWorks, Fusion360 or similar), Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, XD). It is also favourable to have knowledge of Unreal Engine, Substance Painter, and coding / programming skills.
Applications
Applications for the BMW Group + QUT Design Academy Internship program are only available to current QUT students through Work Integrated Learning. The Work Integrated Learning course runs in semester 1 and 2 of each teaching year, although the work component can be front-loaded either in mid-year or end-of-year break before semester begins.
