Having had the privilege to drive both older and very recent BMWs, what I most enjoy is the similarities they share. That feeling of being connected to the road; the confidence to drive to the limit. Nothing else drives like a BMW. It truly is The Ultimate Driving Machine.

My name is Søren Waldmann and am studying industrial design at QUT. I just completed my final year and have recently finished my internship at the BMW GROUP + QUT Academy. Having now finished the internship I couldn’t be happier.

It has been a tumultuous year for many around the world, but we are thankful to reflect on 2021 as the year our collaboration with BMW Group continued to grow. This success is a testament to the depth of the relationship and the trust that has formed between QUT and BMW Group, and which will propel us into an exciting year ahead.

Participating in the BMW Group + QUT Design Academy Internship was a wonderful opportunity to develop an awesome project and grow my design skills.

Travelling to Munich to take up an internship in Germany during the start of a global pandemic? Why not? It probably wasn’t the best time to travel to the other side of the world, but it was an unmissable opportunity. This blog post is something I’ve been looking forward to doing for some time now! I wanted to take this chance to describe and reflect on my journey as a designer, as an attempt to provide insight into one of the many pathways and opportunities that can stem from industrial design - to share my experience of dealing with the crossroads that delimitate product design, emerging technologies and visualisation.

Interning at BMW Group + QUT Design Academy was my most memorable and special time during my interaction design degree. The opportunity to work on a live UX/UI project from BMW Group has accelerated my skills, knowledge and maturity as a designer.

Interning at BMW Group in Munich alongside industry professionals was a very special opportunity for me. Over the 9 months I was there I grew not only as an individual, but as an industry professional.

After my wonderful summer, exciting work life, and an overall good shake of the sauce bottle, it’s only fair to ask myself; Would I do it again? I wouldn’t change a thing.

Jacob and I are in a BMW 3 Series M Sport, cruising home on the Autobahn, exhausted from a 3 day trip to Plant Leipzig. As I stare out my window towards the lusciously green hills of Bavaria, I couldn’t help but ask myself excitedly ‘how on earth did I get here?’.
